About Me!
Hello! My name is Addie Corn and I am a senior at Ravenwood High School. I am an active member of many extracurricular activities, such as the Ravenwood Color Guard, Yearbook, and National English Honor Society. However, my work outside of school is most important to me. I’ve loved to read and write my whole life, and when my mom suggested I volunteer at my local library, I jumped at the chance.
I joined the Teen Advisory Board (TAB for short) soon after I started shelving books. Later, I was elected as a co-chair and I now plan and lead meetings, as well as coordinate our events, such as the Spring Carnival we are hosting in April. We also are actively fighting censorship in both the library and the city when it comes to “controversial” books.
The Library
I started volunteering at The John P. Holt Brentwood Library during my sophomore year of high school when I had to beg my parents to drive me every week. Since then, I have amassed over one hundred hours of volunteer work and received recognition for my service. I shelve books in the children’s section and I am an active member of the Teen Advisory Board.

Benefits
At TAB, we host many events in order to encourage teens to get involved with their library! For example, we host a Halloween Bash every year with a myriad of fun activities.
We also host a family event every year! This year we are hosting a Spring Carnival with kid-friendly games and activities. These events help younger kids gain interest in reading!
It is nearly impossible for librarians to shelve all the books, which is where volunteers like myself come in. Volunteers help the library run smoothly and efficiently, and I am proud to say I help with that.
College Preparation
Through TAB, I have gained leadership and communication skills. TAB has also greatly increased my creativity, dedication to my community, and even my confidence. These skills will help me find my place in college, and help me succeed at college and in my future career.
Volunteering at the library has taught me the importance of commitment and consistency. I learned to be dependable and responsible, and I also learned how to get involved in my community.
While I have not yet committed to a college, I am sure that my experience at the library will help me flourish wherever I go!
